Yesterday we were sitting in Ellie's room reading a book. I was reading and she was half listening while going through a box of her new stuff she got for Christmas. She kind of stops and looks up at me and says
E: Mom, how do you feel?
M: Ummm, kind of tired. How about you? How do you feel?
E: I feel frustrated.
M: Why do you feel frustrated?
E: Because I can't read that book.
M: Oh...(stunned, did she really just say that)
Before I can get a handle on the fact that this little 2.5 year old seems to understand what frustrated means and is actually experiencing it, she jumps up and says 'Let's go sit on your bed and read another book.'
Later on in the car Wade asked Elle what makes her frustrated and she says:
'That and that and people.'
We were giggling in the front seat.
