Wow, Christmas is over...how sad. And at our house Christmas is really over. No more sorry little artificial tree, no more sparkly lights outside, no more walls in the living room. Again, a story for another day.
Last week at this time we were all excited to get to New York to begin our Christmas celebration. Wade got off work early and sent me harassing text messages all afternoon because I did not leave work early. Good thing we didn't hit any traffic on the way up, or I might have never heard the end of it....just kidding.
On the ride, Wade and I were listening to the radio and Ellie was playing with a doll in the back seat. I heard her say "You put your hand on your chest and say I pledge allegiance to the flag..." And she said the entire Pledge of Allegiance. Wade and I just sat quietly in the front seat with the radio turned down, listening to that sweet little voice. And when she was finished we asked her where she learned that and she said "Mimi". I swear I heard her say duh under her breath. Because really, where else does she learn stuff?
This was the first Christmas we celebrated in my parents new house. The last time we were there for Christmas, they had sold their house and moved out just a few weeks before Christmas. If it weren't for the fact that it was Ellie, Clare and Luke's first Christmas and that Mick surprised everyone and came home from Beijing for the holidays, it might have been the worst Christmas on record. But not this year, the house is amazing and feels and smells just like my Mom & Dad's house should.
