Valentines Day Past and Present

I like Valentines Day, to me its not really about the romance or fancy stuff, its just a fun day to do something even more special for people who you really care about. It seems almost like an old fashion kind of holiday, like when people used to write love letters and send hand made cards in the mail.
Growing up, we would get a week off school in February, and it would always fall around President's day, so sometimes we would be off school for Valentines Day. And since as far back as I can remember, my mom would have a box of candy and a card waiting for all of us when we woke up in the morning.
The first Valentines Day I spent with Wade, I had the stomach virus...how romantic! Our first Valentines Day as a married couple, we lived in NY and I got stuck in the city because there was a fire in the train station so it took me 4 hours to get home.
On Valentines Day when I was pregnant, we had an ice storm in Baltimore and since I was 7 months pregnant, I did not drive to work, so I stayed home and had a lazy day with Magoo.
Last year was the first time I put out Valentines decorations in our house and Wade said "I thought we don't celebrate Valentines Day in this family?" Well, we do now since we have a kid and everyone knows that once you have kids, you not only celebrate every holiday, but you have to decorate your house for it too!

This year we had a busy Valentines Day. Ellie made Wade a paper heart with arms and legs at daycare, and she drew the face on it, which is hilarious, but actually came out pretty good. She also made something for me but it wasn't ready yet when I picked her up on Friday. Wade came home from work on Friday with some of my favorite roses for me. Saturday morning we gave Elle her Valentines gift from us- a pair of polka dot galoshes and a matching polka dot rain coat. Which she loved, of course.
I took Elle with me to get my oil changed because Wade had to take a certification test for work. The first thing she did in the waiting room at Jiffy Lube was shake the candy machine to see if she could get any free candy, which she did. She learned this little trick from Aidan, if you shake the machine just a little and keep turning the knobs, you can get candy without putting a quarter in. Mind you it's 7:45 am and now she is starting her day off with M & M's and Mike & Ikes. Great!
So I take her next door to Dunkin Donuts to get her a bagel and I am standing on line, holding her, and a guy gets on the line behind me and says "She's almost as tall as you." Very funny- yea, I know, I'm an Oompa Loompa! Let's all just pray that Elle gets her Dad's height, or at least some of it. Though I don't think it is possible for her to be shorter than me.
After the oil change, we went to the food store. I went there for one thing, so I let her walk but of course she had to also hold the little basket too, so the 5 minute trip turned into a 20 minute trip. Oh well, I like when she tries to do big girl stuff, so I didn't mind.
No one can fully appreciate this as much as Wade and I, but he passed his test for work. Hooray! I am really happy for him.
Saturday night we went to Jen and Justin's house for some snacks and pizza and to see their son Luke who just turned 6 months. He is such a cutie and Elle loved seeing him. Wade even let her hold him on her lap. She thought that was pretty cool. We had to leave around 10 because the kids were pretty tired so the Healeys came back to our house and we got to bowl a few games on the Wii.
Turns out Erin is a big hustler when it comes to the Wii, every time it was her turn, she would stand up and act like something was wrong with her controller. Then out of no where she would bowl a strike! And Wade got mad at me because I had the lowest score and that was because I was not "focusing". I kept trying to tell him that it didn't bother me that I was the "loser" and I think that made him even more mad.
