This year we decided to spend Thanksgiving home, just the three of us. The thing that's so great about Thanksgiving is that it's a holiday that makes you stop and think about how grateful you are for everything you have. A day to sit down to a super delicious feast and celebrate all of your favorite people.
Try explaining that to a 4.5 year old.
She was so excited for Thanksgiving, all month. And once the excitement of being home from school wore off, she realized, just like most kids, that Thanksgiving is just another day. She was bored, even after going to the park and watching the parade. She was tired when we were getting ready to eat, and kept asking why we were eating dinner while it was still light outside (at 3 pm). And so, Wade and I tried as hard as we could to eat together, but by the time he and I sat down, she was done eating. The two of us ate and cleaned up, kind of like any other meal.
But the thing that saved the day, because by the end, it kind of needed saving, was a walk. At first we started out taking a little walk around the block to get some energy out. And then it turned into a little adventure. We walked for over an hour, checking out the stars, racing each other from one spot to the next, looking in store windows and just spending time with each other, and Magoo.
And that's our Thanksgiving story this year.
