Friday I got off work early and raced to pick up Ellie before nap time. Part of me was thinking I should just let her have her nap and then pick her up after but it seemed wrong to not share my good fortune of a free afternoon with my best pal. She was super excited to be leaving school early and even more excited that we were going to the movie store on the way home.
Last weekend we took Ellie to the movie store for the first time and she fell in love. She was running around barefoot saying "Woohoo! I love the movie store!" The kid has a ton of movies at home, but now she is addicted to renting movies. Which is great, except as Wade pointed out, as she was cruising up and down the aisles with 6 movies in her hands, they cost $5 a piece! We have been back 3 times already.
We rented a few movies and all she wanted to do when we got home was go upstairs and lay in our bed and watch them. So I set her up with a snack and a drink and put the movie on and went downstairs to clean out our basement that looks like a tornado dropped a Michaels and a Home Depot in it, with a treadmill(which is never used) as the dividing line between the two. A little while after I got started I heard the sound of running water. I actually stopped for a second and thought to myself "I wonder where that water sound is coming from" and blew it off thinking it was the washing machine.
Never. Ever. Ever. Think to yourself 'Huh, I wonder where that water sound is coming from' and not go investigate the source. Ten minutes later when Elle called me upstairs to the kitchen I heard the water sound again and ran upstairs to find water gushing into the hallway from the very overflowed bathroom sink. I'm guessing the water was running for a good 20-25 minutes before I actually found it. What I can't figure out is how she did not hear it. She must have walked by the bathroom 3 times before I got up there.
8 towels later and a good time out and the mess was cleaned up. I found a few more spots where the water dripped through the ceiling into the basement, but no real damage done. She's lucky!
