surprises

Wednesday morning I was dragging the empty garbage can up the driveway (in the pouring rain) cursing our garbage men who drop the stinkin can in front of the driveway every week. And when I put the can at the end of the driveway, I noticed some yellow flowers peeking out from the overgrown weeds on the side of the house. Its a pumpkin plant! Last year we put some of our pumpkins on the side of the house when they started to rot and I guess the seeds grew back. Hooray! I always wanted to grow pumpkins. I'm not sure any pumpkins will actually grow, but its cool that they are trying.

That night when I got home, I told Ellie I had a surprise for her. We got out of the car and walked over to the plant. I was so excited to show her. When I told her it was a pumpkin plant, she said in her doubting voice "A pumpkin plant?!"
And then she looked up at me with that sweet face and said "Mom, do you have any other surprises for me?"
