advent: the wreath

Growing up we lit an advent wreath every night at dinner, I think my mom's advent wreath was brass. I can still picture those candles, all different lengths by the time we got to Christmas. And so I thought it was a good idea to get an advent wreath this year and begin that little holiday tradition at our house.
Ok, I happened to be in Michaels one day in the beginning of November and the woman ringing me up mentioned that they had the pink and purple candles, and she went and got me the wreath and the candles. But still. I think its good to pick some of the things that we did as kids and pass them on to Ellie.
Since our church-going efforts have been less than stellar lately, we missed the first Sunday of advent, so we lit the wreath for the first time last night. I thought I had a good chance of getting Ellie involved in the whole thing since the candles are her favorite colors, and I was right. We lit the first purple candle and we said grace the way she learned at school and she thought it was cool.
