Saturday Elle went to her first gymnastics class of the season and we had a birthday party for one of the kids at her daycare. I realized Friday night that this is the first party she has been invited to that was actually one of her friends. Up until now we have only attended parties that were for kids whose parents are our friends. All the kids from Mimi's house were at the party so I basically got to sit and talk to the moms while she ran around with her little 9 to 5 family.
Only two minor things happened.
Everyone was standing around the table waiting for the cake to be cut and Elle climbed up on the table....sigh. And the birthday boy's mom said, as she quickly reached around grabbing stuff off the table before Elle could get it, "Oh, Elizabeth...are you like this at home?" Which we all know translates to "Wow, do you have any rules at home kid? Or do your parents just let you do whatever you want." I smoothly said "Oh course she is, why do you think I already have grey hairs" while snatching her off the table top.
Then one of her little friends had to go to the bathroom and insisted that Elle come in with her, not her mother. I knew this was trouble, but I stood close to the door talking to the mom and holding my breath. After a very long time the door popped open and her little friend comes bopping out but no Elle. Yikes, she cannot be left alone in a room that has a sink in it! So I slowly walk in and find Elle standing on top of the toilet on her tip toes hanging onto the edge of the pedestal sink dunking a hair roller in a sink full of water.
And then...it was time to leave.
