Last night I was went down in the basement just as Elle was asking Wade to play Barbies with her. She got a huge mansion and box full of them for her birthday from the Henzy family. (they are actually "Bratz" dolls- but since I hate that name and I have banned the word "brat" from my house, we call them Barbies)
When I was a kid my sister Erin and I played Barbies ALL the time. We had a friend named Megan who lived across the street and we would go to her house or she would come to ours and we would spend all day playing Barbies.
Anyway, I came downstairs and she had all the dolls out so I sat down on the floor and told her I would play. Wade, looking very relieved went upstairs to leave us girls to our dolls. We sat there and dressed the dolls and pulled all the furniture and stuff out of the box.
Wade came down an hour later and said "you guys are still playing Barbies". I laughed and told him that he was entering a world he had no idea about. That this was the big deal about Barbies, this is how to play with them. Wade does not have a sister so he probably had very little exposure to this secret girl world. I, on the other hand, realized that sitting there on the floor next to my daughter surrounded by Barbies, finally felt relaxed for the first time in about two weeks.
