That's what they say, but firecrackers do. I know that is true because I have been hit by a firecracker twice in my life, both on the 4th of July (obviously) and both on the same leg.
The first time was when I was a junior in high school, my sister Erin and I were at a 4th of July party in our town and we are standing out in the street in front of the house and out of nowhere I feel this burning feeling on the side of my knee and look down and my leg is bleeding and there is a burnt out firecracker on the ground. Still have no idea where it came from but man that sucker hurt.
Then when I was 27, I was at a 4th of July party at my uncle's house and there were a few people out in the front of the house setting off firecrackers and I was standing at what I thought was a good distance from them and someone lit a bottle rocket and stuck it in a beer bottle in the middle of the street and the bottle tipped over and the bottle rocket came flying down the street at ground level and I couldn't run out of the way fast enough so the damn thing went off on my ankle.
I should mention that I had my appendix removed on July 2nd so I was not really in any condition to even be at 4th of July party, much less be running for my life from a runaway bottle rocket.
Despite all of this, I love fireworks and the 4th of July is my second favorite holiday of the year.
