Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Last year on Ash Wednesday I had to call my 10 year old nephew Mike to ask him what is so special about Ash Wednesday, which is pretty sad when you consider the fact that I went to Catholic schools pretty much my whole life.
I usually do not "give up" anything for Lent since it seems kind of silly to me to give something up if I don't even go to church. But this year, being that my child is getting older (and turning into the Devil) I decided that I should try to be a better mom and give something up and try to go back to church.
So....drum roll please....I am giving up sweets. Don't ask me how I am going to make it through the next 39 days, but I am going to do my best. This is a huge sacrifice considering that I am made up of about 90% sugar (and I don't mean my demeanor).
Anyway...wish me luck as I sit here drinking my hot cup of green tea to replace my usual 3:00 cookie fix.
Oh yea, we also decided that we would give up eating out for Lent. The last meal we ate out was at Ruby Tuesday, and let me tell you, it was not worth the $50 we spent.
