Wicked Weekend

On Thursday night we went out and bought a portable DVD player for our Dora-obsessed daughter, so she could watch her shows in the car on the way to NY on Friday night (and also for our trip to Omaha next week).

Wade packed the car when he got home from work on Friday and set up the DVD player and for the first hour and a half of the trip, the back seat was completely silent, except for the Dora DVD that was playing. She was mesmerized. Everything was going great, no traffic and everyone was happy, until we got to the end of the 4th episode of Dora. Elle asked for some crackers and juice, so I passed back the snack and about 5 minutes later we hear "Mommy, my tummy hurts" And that was the end of the crackers and juice. Wade said maybe it was motion sickness from watching the DVDs for the first time in the car. I suspect he's right since as soon as she was done getting sick, she wanted her crackers back.

We arrived at Nana & Papa's house around 10:00, and the Healey's were already there so we hung out for a little bit and went to bed around 11, so we could be well rested for the big day on Saturday.

On Saturday, we took the train to the city around 11:30, so Wade took Ellie to Chuck-E-Cheese with Kerry and her crew for a few hours and then Elle was off to the Smith's to hang with Jenny, Mike, Maeve, Luke, and Clare. She had a great time. They made a TMNT birthday cake for Aidan and played with all of Maeve and Luke's toys. She tried out their potty and took a bath. While she was in the bath, she was splashing, which she is not really allowed to do at home since she does not splash gently and she ends up soaking the bathroom. So anyway, Jenny tells her No splashing or she has to get out of the tub. So Elle looks at Jenny and considers what she has told her and starts to sing "Happy Birthday to Jenny", I guess she thought a serenade would either allow her to keep splashing or in the very least get her out of any trouble she might be in for splashing in the first place.

Erin, Mom and I arrived in the city with some time to spare so we took a cab up to the Theater and got something to eat before we went in. When we got out of the cab there was a guy on the corner asking for money, for himself or some make-believe charity, anyway, when we walked by him, he said "Come on Charlie's Angels, give money to ...(insert charity)" Maybe I should have given him a dollar just for calling us Charlie's Angels. Man, where do people come up with this stuff.

Unfortunately, our seats were not together, so we separated before the show and met up during intermission. Side note: when we met up again, we were telling Mom that there were a bunch of seats open in the row in front of us and that she should go get her jacket so she could sit with us. She says "No, I'll just go back to my seat, I don't want to cause any trouble." Nice try Ma- her seat was 5 rows from the stage, that's why she didn't want to swap seats.

The play was amazing! I could not have imagined it would be so great. Sadly, I think the place I left off in the book was where the play begins. And let me tell you, if the book had been as interesting as the play, I definitely would have finished reading it. Oh well...quitters never win. I loved it, I want to go again next year, or next month! The singing, the costumes, the set, everything was so cool.
After the play, we met up with Wade, Sean and Dad for dinner at il Vagabondo for some delicious Italian food, lots of laughs and bocci. Well, us girls didn't play bocci, but the guys did. We took the train back to Amityville, while Wade and Sean met up with a friend of Wade's from high school. And according to the two of them, they still "have it", since some cute girls were dancing with them at the bar.

On Saturday while we were running around before we got on the train, Erin and I got a special request from Uncle Matt to stop by. So Sunday morning, we went over to him and Claire's house for a visit at 7 am. (He wakes up at 3:45 in the morning, I should have called him Friday when I had to wake up that early for work) We hung out and talked for a while and then we had to go gather the crews and pack up the cars to get back home.

I hate leaving NY when I visit, maybe that's why I try not to go there as much as we used to. Its so fun having all the crazy sisters and their kids there. But then I get home to my little house and it is so quiet and cozy and I love it too!
