This week we went to buy our Christmas tree. We have not had a real tree in a while, because I bought a fake one a few years ago, but Wade hates it. So this year, since we will be home for Christmas we wanted to get a real one.
We went to a tree lot filled with trees and Christmas carols playing through the speakers and all these happy families picking out their trees together. Ellie sat in her stroller eating a Christmas cookie and helping us decide which was the best tree for our house...
Wait, that's not how it went at all! Here is what really happened- we went to Home Depot and there was Christmas music and it was nice because we were the only family there so we could take our time picking out the perfect tree. But it was more like I would hold up a tree or Wade would hold up a tree and the other person would approve or disapprove while running by to chase Elle. Who, by the way, was sprinting around the Home Depot garden center with a peppermint tootsie pop in her mouth...whoops! She would stop for about a second and then take off again to hide in the next aisle yelling "I see you Daddy! I see you Mommy!"
So while she was trying to climb up on the ride-on lawn mowers or "tractors" as she calls them, Wade wrapped up our tree and we went inside to pay before we lost complete control our our daughter...haha. We get to the check out and Wade is holding the tree and I am paying and put her down for a second and while I am putting the credit card back in my wallet I turn around and she's gone!
I look at Wade, he looks at me and a woman a few registers over says "Is she wearing a pink jacket?" We say "Yup" And she says "She went that way" and points to the far end of the store. So I take off after her and finally catch her at the other end of the store, laughing while she is running away from me.
And off we went to the car with our awesome Christmas tree and all the Home Depot customers staring at us as we left!
